Alone on 'The Island'?

Went to see The Island this weekend. Apparently, I was the only one (though I'd swear the theater I was in was pretty full). I actually enjoyed the film a lot, which makes me wonder 2 things:

1. Is it okay to like Michael Bay? All of the critics tell me not to. I probably shouldn't tell them of my secret love for Armageddon

2. Did I miss the memo that said 'don't see this really expensive movie' this weekend?

I dunno. I'm gonna offset my sin of enjoying a Michael Bay movie by going to see March of the Penguins today. I loves me some penguins.

My guilty pleasure is Armageddon also! I have taken many a hit from fellow film friends for this.

I actually wanted Bay to do Superman - there is is.

I also don't think there is anything wrong with Jerry Bruckheimer..some of us see past the exploding Humvees and toppling buildings eh? That is the thing I need to do more of, and you remind me (ie: kick in the pants) is to get out and see more films on the bigscreen

I loves me Penguins too. My wife and daughter went and saw Penguins and then dragged me to see it also. I thought it was great. And so is Bay. Critics may not love him but $1 billion in profits can't be wrong.

Nothing wrong with Armageddon. I thought it was fun, my friends thought it was fun. Heck, some of them cried at the end. They're men and they openly admit to crying at the end. They aren't ashamed, and neither should you be! :)

Never understood the Armageddon bashing, and I'm looking forward to The Island. If nothing else, it has Scarlett Johansson, Steve Buscemi, and Michael Clarke Duncan in it.

ok, so I'll be the only negative, stick out my neck & say armageddon sucked balls. hated it & only saw it bc, at the time, liked Affleck's choices (GWH, CA, Dogma).

but I can say I liked "the Rock." I hated the beginning chase scene, thought Cage overacted in some scenes again, & I can't ususally stand Connery (only bc he's about 100 freakin' yrs old & is continually cast against love leads who are babies compared to him, yuk!). But the rest was awesome & Ed Harris rocks.

Hated Armageddon, hated it hated it hated it. To explain why is either difficult or easy, depending on who you talk to - sure, it's not without it's guilty pleasures (Liv Tyler, Billy Bob) and I like cheese, but this is a festering eyesore of a film (even Billy Bob has disowned it.

That being said, I did like the first Bad Boys.

I didn't like The Island, because I've already seen at least 3 times (or more). When it was called Clonus, Logan's Run, THX 1136.

Michael Bay is okay, and then horrible at the same time. He's fine for a rainy day and when you just want to lounge out on your couch and become comatose for 2 hours. He's horrible, because, well, there are no stories to his films. And if they are, they're buried under 35 car chases, which turns out to be a blessing since his stories are never all that original in the first place. Hmm, perhaps Mr. Bay is on to something...

I liked The Rock and Bad Boys, by the way. :)

"1 billion in profits can't be wrong". Hey! That's a producer talking!. And I equate those 1 billion in profits to the lowest common denominator theory. Which, in my eyes, does make it wrong.
