Feedback

So, got my first draft (and I mean really really rushed first draft) of my "House" spec outline back from my instructor (btw, for those keeping score, this is a new class so the instructor for this class does NOT write for "House". The instructor for my previous class does write for the show.)

So, how to interpret the notes...there are exactly 2, not counting the 'Very Good!' at the top of the first page. Note number 1 tells me that a scene in Act 4 might not be needed. Note number two says that another scene later on in the Act could be combined with the scene I might not need.

That's it. Those are the notes. I'm not sure I can revise my draft from this.

So either it is 1) the most brilliant outline ever written or 2) it was so bad she didn't know what to point out.

Please God, let it be #2. I don't know if I could handle it being really brilliant.

Working on the revision of my "Lost" spec today. I'll go back to the outline during the week...

Remember what King said - the second draft is the first draft minus ten percent.

sounds like that is what your instructer was saying - just go through and omit everything that is unnecessary.

Option 3 is that you've got a lazy teacher. Really, if its the only assignment for the class you should be able to get at least 2 pages of impressions from a teacher -- otherwise, how are you supposed to learn?

I forgot one detail which makes things more curious in regard to the lack of notes. As she handed back other outlines to people, I noted writing all over them -- on the front, on the back of the last page -- everywhere. I don't know if anyone else's was a 'clean looking' as mine was, but I'd say mine was cleaner than most.

OMG, Shawna, this sounds very promising. I am very happy (oh yes I am..does a little jig) and I haven't done a jig for anyone in years. More of the same for Lost...

Yeah, similar to what Steve said, I was going to say that Option 3 is that she's a bad teacher. But if, as you say, everyone else's had tons of comments, you should just come out and ask her about it! Congrats. :-)

I'm afraid you're just going to have to face the fact that you're good. :-)
